Welcome

Hi, I'm Sarah

My artwork brings together two things I love - nature and colour. Whatever I'm painting, my work is full of colour and feeling. Originally from Durban, South Africa, I currently live in Brisbane, Australia.

I draw inspiration from my many pastimes as avid scuba diver, hiker, traveler, yoga teacher, mountain biker and currently mum. My day job is in communications, until such time as AI replaces me - already here?!

Enjoy looking around and please get in touch if you have any questions.

The meaning behind the latest painting...

This artwork is of my six-year-old son. We often go to the beach where I walk, and he scooters along the promenade, as we both enjoy the beauty and therapy of the ocean.

This artwork started off being about my appreciation for our environment and celebration of being alive. My son finished chemotherapy in 2023, and since then has made leaps and bounds in his recovery.

Unfortunately, while painting this piece we received the news that he will need treatment again soon. While the news is devastating, we are hopeful. This piece is symbolic of that hope. It is a means of holding onto the strength, courage, and joy of my son – as well as all the children traveling a similar path.

Freedom

Acrylic on canvas

45 x 60 cm

The meaning behind this painting is twofold.

One part is about me connecting with my new environment in Brisbane, at the beach, with the ocean and the elements. A portal back to my home town and intrinsic state.

A second part though, really is about my son. He is the real reason we moved to Brisbane. To see him freely riding his scooter with not a care in the world - something I thought he may never do again - is a miracle. One that I am thankful for every single day. After being bound to the hospital, his bed, his home - he now has the freedom to play like the beautiful child he is.
