Lethbridge Small Scale Art Award -- Salon des Refuses
I'm thrilled to share that my artwork 'High Wave' will appear in the 'Salon des Refuses' -- an online only exhibition that is part of the 'Lethbridge Small Scale Art Award'.
'Salon des Refuses' literally means 'exhibition of the rejected'. It was started by Emperor Napoleon III as an alternative exhibition of works rejected by the jury of the official Paris Salon in 1863. Today, by extension, it refers to any exhibition of works rejected from a juried art show.
Shortlisted from a pool of over 800 entries, the artwork is for sale and available for viewing online. Well done to all the artists! I look forward to the attending the finalist exhibition.

Moving to Brisbane inspired this series of ocean paintings. Queensland is where I feel most 'home' in Australia, as it reminds me of my hometown Durban. Being sub-tropical the humidity is oddly comforting, and the beach invigorating. ‘High Wave’ speaks to my love of the beach, ocean, sun and sand. It reflects the many feelings of moving - to a new country, a new city, or a new house – which are often intense.
